At this point I'll have to revise my post. I'm starting to think anything above one win will see Rex come back for 2014. It really is getting like a Jim Dolan/Isiah Thomas relationship. Clearly I'm not the only one, seeing recent posts in the thread.
Not my point at all Rex stays because Rex is an excellent head football coach And excellent head foorball coaches aren't easy to find...lpok at some of the dimwits we tried and are are now reduced to blubbering like the morons they proved tp be on espn.. When you find a good one you keep him
If Rex goes 6-10 or worse, he will be fired. If he doesn't make the playoffs, he may not be fired. 11-5 can sometimes cause you to miss the playoffs. Should he be fired then?
I think we're on the same side. Bringing Rex back is a 50/50 proposition. He has done enough good to warrant another year, but also enough bad to warrant firing. I do not like Woody guaranteeing that Rex is staying, I would much prefer of this decision was left to the new GM.
You are of course right about keeping good coaches. The problem with Rex is that the judgment on whether he is actually good is still not in.
Are you asking for posts that will prove his point that a lot of this board feels Ryan is a great coach who doesn't deserve any blame? Because there are a LOT of those posts. You don't need to have them linked here, you can go into any thread that talks about Rex, Sanchez or Tannenbaum and they're everywhere.
We could get into the Rex the DC vs. Rex the HC but I'll pass on that. Rex is 14-18 since those two AFCCG losses. 8-8, while not a losing season, is not a winning season either. His excellent coachng has led to total dysfunction at the end of the last several seasons. Woody chose to make Tannenbaum the scapegoat this time. Pettine decided to leave the circus and Sparano, a Rex hire btw, absolutely sucked at his job even with marginal tools to work with. Woody chose instead to gush all over Ryan with false platitudes which actually made him sound like a schoolgirl with a crush. That's why Rex Ryan is still the HC of the NYJ's. Woody Johnson thinks Rex is the second coming of Vince Lombardi, Bill Parcells and Bill Walsh all rolled into one. Woody is in love with Rex and at the end of the day, the team belongs to Woody, not us. What that means is, until further notice, Rex Ryan is bulletproof.
Okay, thought I would bump this thread. After 6 games, Rex and the Jets are (3-3). What does Rex have to do in the Final 10 to keep his job? I think Going (5-5) down the stretch would do it for me. Even finishing (7-9) would probably do it.
I think hes as good as gone. It will be a shame we pissed this opportunity away with such a dogshit offense.
wow I'm surprised at the number of responses for 9-7 or 10-6. I think 10 wins is unrealistic and 9 would be far exceeding expectations. I'd say 8-8 with this team is impressive and removes any doubt whether Rex comes back so I went with 7-9. 6-10 or worse will cause Idzik and Woody to have discussions on Rex and Idzik to push for his guy. 7-9 should be enough to avoid those discussions and for Woody/Idzik to see that Rex did a good job with the talent he was given to work with this year.
Keep Rex! Looks like we finally have an O coordinator who can call a game. Look at what he had before... Schotty is killing the Rams O and Sporano was a joke. The teams with stability are often the sucessful ones.
Finishing the season with Miami twice, Buffalo, Oakland, Cleveland, Carolina, and even Baltimore, those are winnable games. The Patriots, Bengals and Saints are tough for sure and any win would be an upset, but after that stretch, the Jets need to win at least 4 of those 7 games.
