Branch is a big game receiver who haqs great hands, runs great routes and can fly. Givens will be average without Tom Brady.
Plus he's injury prone. That's a great thing to have, also. It would keep our training equipment well-oiled.
As I said before the man TURNED DOWN 5 years at 31 million. Thats WAYYY too much money to be giving to Deion Branch. He's not worth that kind of coin.
Here's the ONLY argument I'll ever give in favor of trading for Deion Branch (which I don't think we should do): The free agent crop of wide receivers next year is bone dry of top flight talent. Doesn't change my mind; I just wanted to pour gasoline on the fire.
New England supposedly wants a 1st rounder for Branch so there is no way I trade for him. However I must admit that I am a fan of Branch's game and if he does hit the FA market next year I would be very interested in signing him.
BOSTON HERALD Branch-ing out?: Some likely destinations Saturday, August 26, 2006 - Updated: 12:30 PM EST So now the question is, where does he go? Just because the Patriots gave Deion Branch permission to seek a trade yesterday doesn?t mean he?ll be able to find a taker, or that the teams will be able to agree on compensation. But if they do, here are some potential landing spots. 1. New York Jets -- Owner Woody Johnson lusts after all things Patriots, as his hiring of Eric Mangini suggests. If the Jets saw fit to bestow a four-year deal on free agent wideout Tim Dwight, imagine what they might do for Branch. It's gotta be the Jets... everyone views Coles as a jump-up-and-get-it, first down type reciever, and they see him as more of a #2 instead of the primary target. Branch would add a deep threat to the passing game. Plus, Mangini was with him last year!
I would trade for Branch. He is better then alot of you guys are making him out to be. I think a Branch/Coles core at wideout would be the best the jets have had in a long, long time. And since walker/Culpepper went for second rounders, that would be the most the jets would have to play............. would they take Mccareins????
Well, there is no doubt the Jets have the ammo to trade for Deion Branch. They have two second round picks and McCareins is supposedly on the block too. The question is: Is Woody Johnson willing to pay Deion Branch what he is worth?
... First: Branch stays a Patriot. Nobody is going to pay him what he and his agent want. Frankly, nobody is going to pay him more than what the Pats are offering. They are just showing him what his market value is (literally). Second: If someone DOES overpay and make an offer of 8-9 million, then that just gives the Pats all the leverage. "Oh, he's worth that much? Well, that's going to cost you AT LEAST as first rounder." Now... I'm not a doom-and-gloom, but frankly, our first round pick next year will probably be pretty high up. Give me Calvin Johnson over Deion Branch.
Thats the best post in this thread. In today's salary cap era its a bad move. How much better do you really think Dieon Branch will make the Jets?
The Boston Herald Sports section is a joke. Woody Johnson lusts after all things Patriots because he hired Mangini? I really couldnt care less about Woody but thats a bit of a reach.
Five Teams After Branch? The Bears, Vikings, Seahawks, Eagles and Broncos might be willing to deal for Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch. http://journals.aol.com/deskblog/TheRumorMill/#Entry1365
So the question is what would Branch be worth in a trade to the Jets?? #2. #3..hell I don't care what they pay him, the salery cap issue always straightens itself out at least it has withe the Jets
I think he is worth a 4th. He is a really good WR, and a threat. No way in hell the Pats would trade him to us though.
...considering the Jets already have enough #2 WR's adding one that would require as much compensation as Branch is looking for would be crazy...
