The question is legit but it’s too soon pal just too soon! Here's my take on some of you "Hypothetical questions". By default we will not be bad next year that's a guarantee.(I say by default because it's still 2006-07 season) How did you fell going into the 1999 season; I had high hopes but in retrospect I think we would have down just as poorly that year with Vinny as we did with Mier and Lucas, 29 touch downs and 7 pick's that was never going to happen for Vinny again so that is that! Let me also add this we won ten games without a real run game, that go a long way into seeing how well coached and ready a Mangini team is and will be!
I was just wondering because I saw how people was doing Chad and look at what he did this season. If it wasn't for Pennington we would had never made the playoffs. If I was to bet I would not bet the Jets to go 5-11 it would be more like 11-5. You know how people on here change in a second. I thought this was a board where we come and talk about the good and bad? I'm sorry just because I ASK a question that is negative doesn't mean nothing.
Talk about completely missing the point. The fact is anyone can say anything they want to validate their point on a public message board like this. And no one here has anyway, at this moment, of confirming what you say. So making a statement like you did is pointless, and feigns authenticity when there is none really.
I'm not going to knock the way Mangini coached at all this year but we still have to look at what our schedule looked like and how we played against the good teams. For all we know we are only that good because of the teams we played and there are many facts out to back that up. LIke the main 1 IMO is that we only beat 1 team with a winning record.
I will conceed our schedule did aid us in making it to the playoff's but with that being said Even the worst team in the NFL (The oakland radiers) had a win where they looked moderatley good .The detroit lions looked like a power house against some teams and as mentioned previously the New England Patriots played against poor competition as well . I think thats why the term "Any given sunday " has become the norm!
very good points.....but we also lost to teams we shouldn't had lost to either. I know we was robed against the Browns but that will just had put into OT not win the game plus if we are a good team it should had never came down to that 1 play against a team like the Browns.
I'll just give my opinion on your hypothetical situation and not pile on.... Benefitted from weak schedule? Sure he did, and he doesn't even have to go 5-11 next year for that to be true. One-year fluke? I guess we'll have to see how we do in 2008, then. To borrow a Mangini-ism: what really counts is how you react to adversity. Surely you're not suggesting he needs to be fired if he goes 5-11 next year, right?
Just to end this whole discussion here are the strength of schedule for the teams that finished above us: 25. Jets- .469 26. New Orleans .461 27. Philadelphia .449 28. New England .496 29. Indianapolis .500 30. Chicago .430 31. Baltimore .461 32. San Diego .457 So by your reasoning New Orleans, Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore, and San Diego are also the product of easy schedules and will tank next season.
I would expect the Jets to follow a similar model with paying free agents large wads of loot, that is not to over pay them if at all possible. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see them get into bidding on some signings like Asante Samuel and help drive up the market price for him to force New England to pay the ransom or let him go.
He also built the team from the line of scrimmage out, like we're trying to do now, and they stayed good all the way through the 80s with the core Michaels put together.
Did your meds get lost in the mail? I'm a strong supporter of diversity in opinion and there have been times that I started a lot of negative threads because I wasn't happy about something that was going on on the Jets, so I appreciate the need to blow off steam now and then. That said you have been relentlessly negative about everything over the last month or so and you always take the worst extremes as your examples. Could you give us a rest for a bit and not start a thread for like 48 hours?
i agree with #1, it is a strong possibility that we will struggle next season. Mangini had one surprise season, would anyone be that surprised if he couldn't do it again. I wouldn't be. As for knocking him for not being a jets fan, that is crazy. It is called being realistic, being critical is part of being a jets fan. this optimistic, wait till next year, bullshit is driving me crazy. we have so many problems on our team and anyone who saw the game on sunday would realize that.
So you are saying that people being optimistic about our team and having some hope is driving you crazy!! I guess you would rather us come of a 4-12 season and see the board filled with negative reactions and low expectations. That would make you feel much better won't it. Do you realize we were playing a dynasty team that has a future hall of fame QB who is coached by the best in the league. At this point we can't measure ourselves against the Pats. Give it a year or two and we should be able to. I just don't understand you can get frustrated and angry and call the optimistic threads "bullshit". Answer me this question. Do you want us to lose?
As long as we have a good offseason and have a relatively healthy year we'll be a double digit win team again. we may have only beaten 1 team w/ a winning record but we played tough against all but Jax and that was w/ a team relearning hpw to win- we'll be much better equipped to handle better teams next year.
Dude, after your posts on this board, your solemn word of honor wouldn't be worth a bowl of dry rice.
