oooo, I like that idea, but which one of their pass rushers would be available, and would they thrive in a 3-4?
Osi Umenyiora is light on his feet......and could possibly 'thrive' as a pass rushing OLB in the 3-4.
Jarret Johnson is a big dude, 6-3, 256, I wonder if we could turn him into a DE. 6 sacks this year and he's 28 and we might be able to get a late round pick for him. I'm sure Rex would love having Trevor Pryce but he'll be 35 soon, not too long ago he had about 13-14 sacks.
Why would the Ravens - who have virtually the same criteria for their Defensive players - want Rhodes if we don't want him?
Get rid of him, probably Coleman, Ihidigbo (however you spell it) and if we can pick up a great cover corner get rid of lowery. I don't think we need all that much on D but the way our secondary played yesterday we obviously need some faster and better playmakers.
The same could've been said when we traded for B.Edwards. One man's garbage is another man's treasure.
We run a offset 3-4, so basically we are in a 4-3 formation more then half the time. Calvin Pace has lined up as a DE a lot this year in the offset 3-4. Osi would be perfect, he's 28 and Kerry is 27. Osi is making 3.1 million next year and Kerry's 2010 cap value is 6.9 million.
Obviously Kerry has talent, he seems to want out and a new home can do wonders for a player. Braylon's attitude is a complete 180 from Cleveland to now.
There's no way you can get equal value back on a trade of Rhodes, plus who are you going to replace him with at an equal talent level? That's the flaw in all of this "trade him" logic. As for people who view him as a locker room cancer, I don't have any clue where you get that from. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean he doesn't have friends on the team. From what I see, he's friends with everyone. Especially Revis and Edwards. Even if you discount Edwards, you'd have to assume Revis would have a problem with him if he felt Kerry was hurting the team.
This... Ed Reed ain't coming here. We don't have enough draft pick depth to get anyone worthwhile and we can't trade.
Yeah I was thinking about Osi, but I was wondering he is too small to be DE, so who would we dump to make him a OLB, Thomas? Or do we keep em all? I really want a big DE who can eat up linemen, our current guys aren't doing that well, thinking about Jenkins coming back and big true 3-4 DE who can take up space, that'll be 4 Linemen working on two DT's.....man I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
Anyone worthwhile?? How do you know how every player in the draft will pan out? That is a ludicrous statement, and not every team has the same needs. It's not like 20 teams have a safety as the top spot on their draft board. Leon Washington was drafted in the fourth round and Shonn Greene was the 5th RB taken( I think). You never know how it'll turnout.
Despite all that....Rhodes clearly isn't performing to his potential, nor his salary grade. Rex didn't bench him out of spite. His play is way too sporadic for Rex not to be concerned.......i'm sure Rhodes' status with this team will be addressed at some point in the offseason...whether we keep him or trade him....he needs an attitude adjustment.
I say keep him, just because I doubt that the Jets can find a better replacement. If a good player falls to us in the draft or a better safety becomes a surprise cut, then jettison him.
Agreed. Rhodes was a 4th rounder himself. This is an incredible safety draft as well. Berry, Mays, Thomas, Jones (Chad and Reshad), Allen, Burnett, Chancellor, and Stuckey should all go in the first 3 rounds. If we trade Rhodes for an early 3rd, we could trade back into the middle of the 2nd and pick up another 3rd. 2) Nate Allen S 2) Eric Norwood/JPP/George Selvie Early 3rd) Mardy Gilyard/Jordan Shipley 3rd from trade) BPA DL/OL/CB Would be pretty sweet.
But I'm talking about Rhodes from a physical standpoint, i.e. his actual play on the field too. He's not tough, he's always on his heels waiting for the ball-carrier to get to him when he makes a tackle rather than attacking the ball-carrier (unlike Leonhard), and he's made a bunch of costly mental miscues in his Defensive reads. I don't see why the Ravens would want a player like that because it's the antithesis of the types of the players that epitomize that D.
But Rhodes is "capable"...we've seen him hit like a tank and make big plays when he first arrived. It's not like he fell off the shortbus right away...a la Gholston.
Not my favorite player, but keep him unless we get good value in the form of Draft pick(s) for him. I used to be interested in swapping with the Giants, but now, I think I'd look to trade with a team that has a promising CBs and a late round pick or a CB with as much talent as Rhodes. I've heard this isn't a great Draft for CB's anyway, so that's how I hope they handle this situation.
Rhodes has shown glimpses of unrivaled athletic ability, yes. But hitting like tank-- I've only seen him do that on unsuspecting/'defenseless' WRs. I can't ever recall him coming up to lay the wood on a ball-carrier. I think a player who lacks toughness and intensity isn't going to become tougher because it's an innate intangible. Rex wants tough, fierce players, and I think he'll take that over a player who inconsistently shows flashes of athletic prowess.
i agree with your assessment. I just think Ozzie Newsome is stupid enough to trade for Rhodes...if Reed retires. It's total speculation, mind you.
