The draft isn't the place to get the LT, too many variables when you pick Mac will go BPA Much smarter to get a Clady or a Long or whoever is youngest and talented at LT. We will be getting a vet player imo
Could Maccagnan be thinking about moving up to get Tunsil or even Stanley somewhere in the top 8? I don't think so, but if the Titans would entertain the idea of Mo, #20 and maybe some combination of future mid round draft picks I think Mac would think about it. Tunsil is considered one of the best prospects to come out (similar to D'Brickashaw), only Tunsil comes out without the weight/strength question marks that Brick had. Food for thought. I'm not sold on Stanley, but I think Tunsil is going to be elite from day one.
Don't be surprised if Mac trades Wilk as part of a package to move up a few spots to take one of the higher rated OTs ( if he gets the package he is seeking ) OR Mac may move down 4-5 spots, pick up an extra 3rd round pick and take Jason Spriggs.
Trading a stud DE and going up 19 spots to take an OT isn't very wise. But we are the Jets, so will probably do it.
All this talk of the Jets moving all the way up to # 1 is nonsense.......unless Mac likes that Wentz kid. I just don't see him doing that.....
I wouldn't do that since I'd be putting all my eggs in the Tunsil basket. Remember how great Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, and Greg Robinson were supposed to be? I'd much rather get a replacement or two before the draft that I know can be serviceable and then draft a tackle if I like him without mortgaging the future by moving up.
It's worth noting that adding both Long and Beatty or some combination of one of them and Clady/Joeckel would fit in with what Macc's done all offseason. Lose a higher priced player (Ivory, Snacks, Davis, now Brick) and replace him with multiple lower cost free agents (Forte, Powell, Robinson, McLendon, Jenkins, Henderson, Carter, and now new LTs).
I wonder if Mac could acquire Joeckel on the cheap - say a 4th round pick - maybe stick him at LT this year and eventually move him to RT permanently ? Would this work I wonder......much younger than Breno and probably better too. Not an all pro but solid at least and shouldn't be too expensive. Question is could he handle right side ...
It's Clady after all. I wonder if Macc still goes after Long or Beatty as insurance. One of them shouldn't cost more than 1-2M.
That would be a good thing I would think. Load it up and weed them out with competition. Plus the added depth is insurance against a W.F. Hunter Fiasco Scenario
Guys, I was thinking about below thing: I am really sure that Macc was fully prepared for the leaving of Ferguson. Why saying that? We was in the race for Osemele (of course till a fair amount of money), we invited Beachum for a visit and made an offer and now the fast trade for Clady. I am really proud of having so a good GM as Maccagnan.
we need the depth either way macc wasnt prepared for brick retiring.... but, he 100% knew that there was 50/50 chance he would have to cut him. so brick retiring being a surprise didnt matter, as macc had a plan in place in case he needed to cut him
he wasn't prepared? seems like this trade was already queued up just in case he retired based on how fast it happened
you clearly didnt read my entire post....where i said he wasnt prepared for him to retire, but he was prepared for him to no longer be on the roster, which is effectively the same thing. the reason macc had a plan so quickly is because that was the plan if they had to cut brick. which was always at least 50/50 of happening. if brick didnt take a pay cut he was being cut. he retired, i dont think macc saw that coming, but its irrelevant since he was going to cut him at that point anyway
