From the early 1990's, in 1992 Jets beat the Bills in Buffalo 24-17, the week after Dennis Byrd's injury....then in 1993, Bills beat Jets 16-14 as Cary Blanchard misses 3 field goals, the last one as time expired... I made the trip to freeze my a$$ off for that nightmare...

For me, I'm not sure either one of these are even in the Top 5 most memorable games.

    1. Jets over Dolphins 2000 40-37 (OT) - MNF Jumbo Elliot TD
    2. Jets over Dolphins 1986 51-45 (OT) - Wesley Walker 4 TDs
    3. Dolphins over Jets 1982 14-0 - AFC Championship
    4. Dolphins over Jets 1994 28-24 - "Spike Game"
    5. Jets over Dolphins 1981 16-15
    6. Tie game 1981 28-28

The Jets loss to Pittsburgh in 2005 with Doug Brien's missed two FGs. Almost had an emotional breakdown after the game.

The 2 victories in a row 2002 season last game of the season against GB and then first playoff game against Indy.

those other games are nice but the '98 one got us back in the playoffs and set us up to win the division.

    1. we choked away that season
    2. we choked away that season
    5. that's a good one

That 98 game was memorable for me because it was one of the first football games I ever watched.

I was at that game in Miami in 1998 so that makes it even more special for me.

We didn't choke away 1998? We we're up 10-0 at halftime in the AFC championship.

2000 we started 6-1 and were 9-4 and missed the playoffs
1986 we started 10-1, finished 10-6 then had a 10 pt lead w/ 4 mins to play in Cle in the div rd and lost.

In 1998 we went 12-4, won the division, lost in the title game on the road. sure we had a 10-0 lead but it was early in the 3rd qtr not w/ a few mins left.

The Jets in the 1980's had some tremendous wins (and losses) vs. Miami that rarely get mentioned. Other then the most obvious (1986 51-45, Mud Bowl, Todd Rib game, Miracle at the Meadlowlands, Spike game), in 1988, Jets beat Miami 44-30 and 38-34. Both games tremendous. In 1989, they beat Miami 40-33 where O'Brien hit Vick to win it in the last minute or so. McMillan had 3 picks in one of those games. Also, 1991, week 17, Jets beat Miami in overtime to make the playoffs. All great games !!!

And on the loss side, in 1985, they took the lead vs. Miami in the last minute, only to give up a long pass to Duper in the last seconds to lose. Tremendous game.

the Jets and Miami used to play the most exciting games.

That '85 loss we had just scored on a TD from O'Brien to Rocky Klever then they hit us w/ the long Duper TD.

I am pretty sure the McMillan 3 INT game was at Miami 1988 where he also scored a TD. That was our first win at Joe Robbie where we are now 15-12 overall.

And the misconception is that Marino used to have his way with the Jets. O'Brien actually had a winning record vs. Marino. While he lit the Jets up, many a time, Marino lost many games to the Jets. I never understood why the spike game gets so much play. The Jets blew that game, the big lead, and when Marino led them down the field, spike play or not, they were going in anyway. The 1991 Jet win, in Miami, to make the playoffs is a far more important game, yet gets almost no play. The 1985 game they lost, in Miami, hurt a lot, because it was a great game, in which O'Brien played great, an exciting game and a game that cost the Jets eventually first place. Think it was Bobby Jackson, who I like, who had the worst coverage on Duper, on the winning play. When Klever scored that TD, it really felt like a win. James Hasty back then used to have really big games vs. Miami, along with McMillan.

This is a great thread. Not going to go through each game but I'll just give a few of my favorite memorable/nightmare games in my short 23 year old jets fandom life. (In no order)

    1) 2010 divisional round vs New England
    2) romping of the colts at home in the playoffs and beating Green Bay the week before was incredible
    3) beating Cinci both times was great as well
    4) Monday night miracle

    worst:
    1) all the Pittsburgh losses in playoffs
    2) thanksgiving game vs pats
    3) back in 2010 45-3 vs pats (night of my birthday -.-)
    4) colts championship game
    5) Denver 98

I am just going to do the division. Too many memories, too many painful losses and not enough time.

Jets 16 Dolphins 15 in 1981. Very much a coming of age game for the Jets which propelled the Jets to a very good decade. I still recall with great fondness the winning drive by Todd.

The worst loss was the mud bowl AFC championship game. Maybe the worst I can recall in our history. The 45-3 loss on Monday night in 1986 was pretty bad as well. The spike game really hurt as well sending us backwards for years.

Jets 30 NE 17 2002 on Monday night. One of the best game and most dominating games I have seen the Jets play. For losses there are some bad ones. The 56-3 game against Grogan was bad but the Monday night 2010 45-3 game is probably the worst as that game was actually meaningful.

Bills the Chad Morton 2 return game a few years ago which I believe was on opening day and the worst was the playoff loss where we got behind 24-0 fought back to 31-27 and lost on the Todd INT at the goal line.

You have to be thinking about the touchdown against the Giants in Connecticut because the description matches and also because he never scored a touchdown against any other NFC team.

What is weird is seeing "49ERS" in red and gold paint in one end zone in Shea Stadium. In the early 1970s, several teams would put their opponent's name and colors in one end zone. The 49ers did this after the baseball season ended. The Chiefs painted their opponent's helmet on the field.

You're probably right about the bootleg TD, but after checking, it definitely was the game 11/28/71 against the Niners - I guess my mind is playing tricks 44 years later. Interesting that the Jets site gives Namath 358 yards, but it was probably really 258 as Pro Football Reference reports. It was Bob Davis who got knocked out of the game in the third quarter and it looks like Al Woodall (who shared starts with Davis) was also hurt, possibly in practice that week leaving Namath the only reasonably healthy QB available. Apparently not a lot of people knew there was no one else on the bench and that's why it took so long for people to realize it was Namath coming in. The score was 17-0 and after three Namath TD throws it ended at 24-21. It looks like there may be some video around for all the younguns out there to check out.

Well, he did not score a touchdown vs the 49ers. I am not aware of the full telecast being available, but I do have a DVD of the Game of The Week film for the game.
