I play in an over-35 touch league. Games every Sunday from 10-12. Season begins in October and runs through March. Why those dates? From the end of our sons' Fall baseball league to the beginning of their Spring baseball.
I spoke with and worked out for a coach in the city league (contact) here in SA and I'm going to be playing next season, strictly on a trial basis for both sides as I don't know how physically able to play I am anymore, and it's been about 5 years since I've actively played.
Well being that I can't even walk up the stairs without getting out of breath these days its probably a good thing that I haven't played football in a while..
I played both ways in high school. I switched between LT and LG on offense and I played LE on defense. I went to school with Adam Terry who was drafted by the Ravens to groom behind Ogden in the 2nd round last year. A couple of guys I went to school with play in the CFL and a few play college ball. my problem is that I stopped growing, i never got past 5'11". Now I play intramural flag football at my college and I'm playing for a semi pro team this year. I'm trying to get down to about 225 so I can play linebacker and fullback for them.
I play.... Or played.... Was our varsity captain this year, second in the section in sacks... Played DE and LG primarily, despite the fact that I only weigh about 180... I love it though... Next year I'm going to a division I AA school though, so I'm hoping I'll make the team... I'd die without football!
I will be starting for my freshmen team at DT/MLB next year. Not sure about offense, because offense sucks anyway.
I dont get what everyone has against playin offense. It doesnt matter to me. I love football. On D i blow up my gap an kill the RB an on O i pancake the DT in front of me.
Because I much rather play defense. Our offense revolves mainly around run blocking as so many high schools do, and being the potential tightend/current tackle I rather play what I excell at (defense) then offense. I can realistically play anywhere from safety down through the middle to defensive tackle. I played tackle last year (both ways) and was a whole second faster than our fullback who got a lot of carries, and .1 slower then our opening day tailback.
I'm going on an academic scholarship, so yeah I'll be a walk on to the football team... I'm going to e-mail the coach this coming week, see if he sees any hope for me... Luckily I played just about every position on the field (except K/P) in my 4 years in high school, so wherever they need me I'll be able to play...
In my junior year I was a QB.. And while it was great sometimes, on a bad team, QB is mainly stress.. This season however, being a G and a DE, both sides of the ball were equally fun... I was small for my positions so every snap was a challenge for me, and there is nothing better than knowing you just owned someone with 100lbs on you.. Being a lineman, both sides of the ball were great... The only thing I didn't like was pass-blocking... Run blocking was a blast, and defense was great no matter what...
Pass blocking isnt that bad i like doen it because i know i got my QB's back protectin him and i give him all the time he needs to throw to the receivers for big gains and touchdowns and run blockin is fun as hell and i fuckin love it just drivin suckas into the ground and once your done takin care of the DT you watch your runnin back sprint 80 yards for a touchdown. Its a great feelin as a linemen. Line is very fun to play. Even though i have good size (im 6 foot1 240) i still go against guys that are bigger then me like 300 lb. players even on the high school level. Its fun kickin the shit outta kids who are bigger then you and cuz you fuckin pancake them then you just laugh at them. One thing i had over those 300 lb. player was speed. I know i can play in college. All i gotta do is not lose my focus on acedemics.
Im a freshman walkon at a d1 college so if you have any questions feel free to PM me. One thing would concern me though...you said you were 180 and played might OL. Dont mean to take a shot at you, but thats not gonna hold in college ball, at OL, I mean. And because youre an olinemen you might not have the greatest speed or agility either. IMO, what I would do if I were you, is between now and when you start school, Id bulk up to around 200ish, and improve my speed and agility...then Id try out as a linebacker. D1aa players really arent huge...the corners are about 170, the safeties 190, and the linebackers 210. Just some advice. Again, dont mean to sound like an asshole, but IMO thats your best shot. Good luck
my friends and i played the varsity football team every year the day before thanksgiving in high school...11 on 11 tackle football, no pads...it was insane...we always lost, but what do you expect from a bunch of basketball players...we had so many plays its not even funny...haha i remember them all like it was yesterday (well it was only 3 years ago)...had our own jerseys made and everything...we were sponsored by a porn site believe it or not....choopa ltd. was the company name, sublimedirectory.com was the site the guy owned...black and silver jerseys, with "c snakes" on the front...our team name was the "cocksnakes", but we wanted to wear them in school the day of homecoming, when the football players all wore their jerseys...the principal and the teachers thought it was a big gang thing, it was awesome...ahhh those where the days... oooooo found a team picture from my friend joe's myspace...i'm not number 88, thats him...i was #28 to mock the captain of the football team...and yes there is a number 187 can anyone top that???
I have gone to 5 schools from middle school on and ZERO have had football. Maybe that's why I have no interest in college football.
i played in highschool.. i was TE/LB/RB.... i go to polytechnic university in BK now and there is no damn football team....so i am starting a flag football thing here... better than no football at all.
With KOZ, DCook, Abyzmul, and many others around, starting your post with this sentence is not recommended.
