New York Jets sign veteran cornerback Donald Strickland, according to source

The Jets have signed veteran cornerback Donald Strickland to a three-year deal, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations.

The person spoke on a condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak for the organization or player. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The signing fills a need for the Jets, who have been searching for a veteran cornerback since free agency began in February. The team had interest in former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Corey Ivy, who signed with the Cleveland Browns, and brought in Samari Rolle, another former Raven, for a visit last week.

Strickland, a six-year veteran who spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, played in 13 games last season as a nickel back, recording 23 tackles with five passes defensed. For his career, he has 115 tackles, two interceptions and 16 passes defensed.

He was originally drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2003 draft, 90th overall out of Colorado, and has played for the Colts and Philadelphia Eagles, in addition to the 49ers.

Now we have Revis, Sheppard, Lowery, Strickland, Carrol, Coleman, Backenridge (or something like that) and Cole. I believe we are going to keep 6 since Lowery can be both a CB or Rhodes reserve.
I think we are set at DB with:
Revis, Sheppard, Lowery, Strickland, Carrol, (whoever survives in TC), Leonhard, Elam and Rhodes.
9 players for 4 positions is good enough depth.

My guess is to move up to the top of the google listings for anyone who searches for Donald Strickland.

Stricklands a solid corner... He's good at bumping at the line and can make an impact as a nickle corner. Nice signing although nothing huge still a solid 3 behind Darrelle and Lito Sheppard. Add Strickland along with Lowery and thats not a bad corner rotation.
