It was a horrible injury that could threaten his career and even sideline him for part of next year, but it's too early to know. Hopefully he's back.
You'd be lucky to get a sack of peanuts for Devin Smith. His draft position has nothing to do with it, his lack of production and injury has everything to do with it.
How come when Fitz consistently underthrew Devin Smith last year everyone bashed Smith, but when he did it with Robby Anderson this year people were able to identify Anderson as a talented young player being held back by the QB? It probably has to do with the bias that Fitz was playing "well" overall last year so people didn't want to blame him or couldn't recognize it, but this year he played like shit so his mistakes were amplified. Still, I think Smith still has potential that requires an actual QB to unlock.
There doesn't seem to be any can't miss QB prospect coming out this year. I like Deshaun Watson but he isn't "can't miss." If it wasn't for Romo's injury history I would be okay with him coming here. This franchise desperately needs to get back in the habit of winning and Romo could do that. As for veterans, there are a few I think the Jets should consider bringing in for a look/see. One is Nick Foles. He is big with a rocket arm, has had success in the NFL and he's young enough to be around for a while. Another in the same vein as Foles is Josh Freeman. Same deal: big man, big arm, has had success as well, and can run a bit too. I think he got a raw deal in TB with the Schiano fiasco. Didn't get a fair shot in Minn. either. I'll bet he could still play at a high level. Certainly worth a look.
