Through week 6 Player . Yards . TDs . INTs . comp% . Rating . Wins .. Losses Orton . 1,465 . 9 . 1 . 63.9 . 100.1 . 6 . 0 Cutler . 1,201 . 10 . 7 . 64.0 . 86.9 . 3 . 2 I never did get the hate for Orton, his team always did well with him as a starter even with the lack of weapons in Chicago
I still think Cutler will finish with better numbers but Orton is definitely proving he can play in this league.
His team record with him as a starter was 27-12, he always could play in the league, it was the Bears fault for being morons with their hard-on for Rex Grossman
I'm surprised you are. He's always been a decent to good underated QB who is now playing in a QB friendly system.
I'm not surprised at all with how things are turning out... I told you guys you weren't giving Orton enough credit. I am a little surprised that the Cutler situation is working out so far... maybe he needs more time to self destruct. Plus winning always helps... things can't be too bad when you are 3-2. Have to give him a little more time and rope perhaps.
hehe...I actually thought him and Orlovsky were the best two QBs in that draft. I think I was right about Orton but wrong about Orlovsky...I was right about Alex Smith and wrong about Aaron Rodgers...so I'm batting .500 for the 2005 draft.
Cutler was brutal again this week, IT's looking like this isn't going to be close this year. through 7 weeks: Player . Yards . TDs . INTs . comp% . Rating . Wins .. Losses Orton . 1,465 . 9 . 1 . 63.9 . 100.1 . 6 . 0 Cutler . 1,452 . 11 . 10 . 65.1 . 80.9 . 3 . 3 Qb rating may be a bit off I calculated it myself since it isn't up anywhere yet
Orton was bad in the loss and Cutler was decidedly mediocre in the win, neither threw a pick or a TD so it stays pretty similar through 8 weeks: Player . Yards . TDs . INTs . comp% . Rating . Wins .. Losses Orton . 1.617 . 9 . 1 . 63.6 . 95.5 . 6 . 1 Cutler . 1,677 . 11 . 11 . 64.0 . 80.8 . 4 . 3 overall I think it's clear orton is having the much better year, similar yardage and completion percentages, a few less TD passes but the 10 INT difference is immense. It would take either a collapse by orton or a huge second half from Cutler to swing this in my opinion.
It would be interesting to see if Cutler could have run McDaniels offense the way he wants it run. I think in the offseason McDaniel became convinced that Cutler was a Bledsoe clone. Large talent with mediocre work ethic and a reliance on his arm versus reading the defense.
Bledsoe and Cutler aren't very similar in my mind. Cutler is actually mobile and has some ability to move around the pocket; Bledsoe was a statue and held on to the ball way too long. The Broncos seem like they came to the conclusion that he makes too many risky throws and is overrated. The number of interceptions he threw inside the 20 last year is pretty damn awful. Orton might not keep this up but this definitely looks like a good deal for Denver.
I was referring to attitude and arm, but you're right, Cutler is much more mobile. It's well known around the Pats that Bledsoe and Huard made fun of Brady as a brown nose because he was always the first there and last to leave and he was a film room junky. Bledsoe showed up each day, but never put any extra work in to get better. He also threw where he felt like regardless of coverage. His arm would carry him, and maybe saw Cutler in that way. You get alot of great pass plays, but also alot of really bad ones.
First Really bad game for Orton through 9 weeks: Player . Yards . TDs . INTs . comp% . Rating . Wins .. Losses Orton . 1.838 . 9 . 4 . 63.2 . 88.2 . 6 . 2 Cutler . 1,677 . 14 . 12 . 63.6 . 83.8 . 4 . 4
through 9 weeks: Player . Yards . TDs . INTs . comp% . Rating . Wins .. Losses Orton . 1.838 . 9 . 4 . 63.2 . 88.2 . 6 . 2 Cutler . 2,046 . 14 . 12 . 63.6 . 83.8 . 4 . 4
Cutler is by far the better quarterback. Orton has a defense and many weapons on offense. He has done surprisingly well though. And yeah, he had a bad game on Monday Night, but not that bad.
