LOL Yes, he has a lot of potential, but I also think he's over-hyped and overrated, and I think he has a greater chance of busting than being great in the NFL if he starts early.
People afraid he might become evil again if they talk bad about him. He looks like the villain from incredibles
Aside from the coaching staffs, recruiters, teammates, and pretty much everybody else in the athletics department at USC being different than the people who were in the same positions the last time a USC QB was drafted in the first round (nine years ago) ... you might be on to something.
Intangibles and attitude have NOTHING To do with teammates ...not saying Darnold doesn't want to win but Baker beats everyone hands down as the guy to bring you back from double digit deficit imo. Your going to reply how Darnolds receivers and offensive line sucked and I get that ..like the post says it's something to consider about a QB not the whole package of variables ...of course this figures high for you if you were one of the Cousins crowd who thought all he needed was better personnel...Mike Zimmer and the Vikings have their jobs on the line with THAT deal..but the QB standing alone is how I see it and like I've posted Capt Kirk will get you at Playoffs door but that's it...Darnold may not be much better than another Kirk C..WHO KNOWS? You might also argue that USC, the PAC 12 was a better program with plenty of gifted athletes than OU and Baker beat a very good Ohio state team by over 2 TD's with "limited" personnel ( I am sure no one heard of them lol)
That's true..he ALSO won a Heisman and believes in Jesus...so what? I see Baker as a Russel Wilson/Drew Bree's prototype ..will he attain that level of success? Will Pat Mahomes and Watson also be successful?? I don't see Baker Mayfield as any worse a gamble as those latter 2
the fact we are taking him 3rd overall and gave up 3 2nd rounders to move up 3 spots, makes him a bigger gamble regardless. Also i think mahomes and watson were much better prospects then mayfield
Not sure I agree. Baker definitely looks the secondary off his primary read but looks to me like he is throwing pretty much to a predetermined spot. I think he goes there even when plays break down and he is forced out of the pocket.
One thing that is for sure for me personally out of this months long draft debate is that I just can't wait to see how Baker Mayfield actually does in the NFL. In my mind there is borderline 0% chance that will be with the Jets but who knows. I guess we'll finally find out in a couple weeks. If he really does develop into a whirling dervish game winning combo of Russell Wilson and Drew Brees I for one am going to not only be impressed but surprised. I'm not seeing it but what do I know. I thought Petty would be decent. heh... so I guess my analysis isn't exactly infallible. I'm still in deep regret Cousins didn't sign here for the rest of his career. I really think the Jets could have made some real success happen if he had.
What has Darnold accomplished in his one year and a half of starting experience that makes him the "unanimous" consensus #1 QB? The offense he ran was more spread than drop back; he scrambles a lot - seeming to prefer that to staying in the pocket and trying to complete the play as designed; his throwing motion is elongated and may well lead to tips and picks in the pros unless he fixes it which isn't easy to do; his deep ball accuracy isn't very good. Any of these issues might well hold him back in the pros, and yet are glossed over, while every single flaw of Rosen, Mayfield, Allen, Jackson are looked at under microscopes. I do think he'll succeed....eventually. But I don't see him coming in his first year and doing so. And there's a fair chance he won't succeed, at least as a FQB. And I compare that level of readiness to Rosen and I scratch my head. Rosen can come in Day 1 and start and be successful. The ONLY real question mark for him is his concussion history. That's legitimate, but if he or his parents and doctors felt he was in danger I doubt he'd be continuing his football career since he has other options. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns take Rosen #1.
