I just have this feeling the F.O. isn't going to go hot and heavy after any "name" free agents. I agree getting a quality RT is a must. I think "hoping" Hunter or Ducasse become decent starters could backfire in the team's face. I would have thought after last season's embarrassing end to the season, the Jets would be aggressive in free agency. If you're making a statement that Sanchez WILL be the QB of the future, the least team could do is sign QUALITY linemen to protect him.
And everyone wrote him off to be a fin. If they sign a RT, they can do almost anything with their first round pick.
Give him some time to ask Bill Parcells what to do, and also to ask Scott Cohen what the Eagles think he should do. All in good time.
I think its in the best interest of our entire team to avoid signing anyone of worthwhile this FA period. The market is so fucked up, and scrub teams are spending like freaks. Everyones getting drastically overpaid, and the talent @ the positions we need is either subpar + overpriced (ie safety), or just way too expensive (ie Mario Williams) Play it smart this year, go crazy next year.
I really want to call bullshit on the "Winston doesn't want to change blocking schemes" reason some of you brought up as why he's not considering us. So before I do, tell me what his blocking scheme was in Houston and how that's different from ours.
Right play it smart and refuse to address any areas of need through FA, then finish 4th in the AFC East and go crazy....brilliant.
Ferguson, Slauson, Mangold, and Moore played in a zone blocking scheme last year also. Are they also useless to us now?
So far zero interest in Winston and I see so far that Nicks has only scheduled 1 visit and it aint to us. Hey at least we signed OHHHH DOWD-----ugh
So because we are in a salary cap era, we can't sign a FA? Please try and compose an intelligent answer, because your first was pathetically retarded.
Yeah maybe giving Laurent Robinson a 5 year 40 million dollar contract will solve all our problems. Or going into a bidding war for the only legit safety option on the market. The NFL is about doing the smart things over years, we have absolutely NO reason to go "all in" on every season. And just because we didnt give someone a 50 million$ contract doesnt mean we wont be able to compete. If youre gonna pretend that we are likely to finish 4th in the afc east because we didnt fuck ourselves with the cap, then nothing would satisfy you outide of signing Peyton, Wallace, Vincent Jackson, and Mario Williams. Fact is you gotta make smart decisions, which sometimes means not blowing all your money. This is obviously the most wacky FA period ive ever seen due to the uncapped season + new CBA, so its foolish to break out the checkbook when youre not gonna get your moneys worth We got into this situation by giving stupid contracts to Scott, Pace, Holmes. Do we really need another stupid contract?
No one was talking about a WR. So you're with the other tool...sit on our hands and do nothing in FA. So, Tanny restructured contracts to do....nothing. Riiiight.
IT'S REAL EARLY in FA so I will cut Tanny slack that said the Bears look as if they have a plan and are sure doing lots of things-------just sayin
We had about 14 million in cap space. We signed Bryan Thomas, and Pouha. That probably puts us Under 10 million. Then we need to spend about 5 million to sign our rookies. With approximately 5 million left in cap space, plus teams often saving at least 2 million for emergency signings, whom do you think we should go into a bidding war for ? Maybe the top RT on the market, expecting to earn over 8m/yr ? Maybe the #1 guard available expecting to be the "highest paid guard in the league". People gotta be realistic and patient, this isnt the year to screw ourselves. With Pace/Scott disappearing soon from our books, be smart See my point now. If the right opportunity arises then absolutely we NEED to jump on it, but going into a bidding war for the prime FA, during a year where teams are overpaying by OBSENCEEEEEE amounts, is nothing less than idiocy. And people whining that were gonna finish 4th in the division because the Bills are willing to spend 28 million a year on a pass rusher, or Miami is gonna mortgage their future to sign whoever, is just ridiculous. Overpaying for 1 or 2 premier FA isnt gonna turn a trash team, into a legit contender.
Per Manish: Interesting RT @alexmarvez #Texans cut RT Eric Winston as waived/failed physical. The reason: Ankle surgery. He'll be fine in 2 weeks. #nfl
