He's cuttable after this season. Maybe if a team has their starter go down in preseason they'd consider him if we could offset some of the money he's owed?
Brady was Bledsoe's back up in 2001 and might not have ever seen an NFL field if Bledsoe didn't get hurt. The whole Brady success story is a fluke. The Pats had no idea what they had or what he would become. The same with Romo. He was a back up. The Jets have not even seen Smith, who may be the best QB in the 2013 draft , play more than a quarter. Simms is a fourth string QB who had a few nice throws Saturday against players who will never play NFL football. Yet you and others are infatuated with anyone who completes a pass or two in the fourth quarter of a preseason game. Simms is not Brady. Can we give Smith a chance please?
What I think people were enamored with was the arm strength. I know I was. After watching noodle arm Pennington then rolling into just above noodle arm Sanchez it had been since the late 90's since we all saw someone who could really sling it. I don't count Favre because we can all agree that was a ridiculous joke of an experiment.
Sims looked fantastic in limited third string preseason action... hopefully they can find an extra inactive roster spot for him.
I am really excited over the POSSIBILITY of Simms, and honestly rather see more of Simms play against the Giants over geno. I really really prey that we dont let Simms go before we see what he's really made of. I have a good feeling about him. By the way, my feeling towards Simms are based mostly on a "vibe" (Don't laugh) i'm catching from him, and not on the fact he played a few series in pre-season.
If Simms had stunk on Saturday night would anyone be saying, "well he stunk because the Jags defense was that good" hell no. They would say he stunk because he isn't good. But since he played well on Saturday. "it was because he went against guys that will be out the league". He was only given a shot against 3rd stringers and he made the best of his opportunity. I think he goes to the practice squad, and then becomes our 3rd QB next year behind McElroy.
That's just the way it works in preseason. If you can't look good against backups and non-players, chances are you're pretty bad. If you do succeed, well, it just isn't all that impressive because you did it against future car salesmen and toll-booth attendants. I liked his arm strength, obviously. That seam pass to Spadola was excellent. His best play I thought the one where he came off a play-action fake, had two guys coming at him, then calmly set his feet and delivered a pretty touch pass to Rueland(?) for a nice gain. I thought that one was a good one regardless of competition level. Haven't seen him throw deep or truly face a pass rush yet. Wouldn't mind keeping him over McElroy at this point.
Being a great college QB, means very little, and sometines an avaerage college QB in the right NFL system can be special.
