Realistic pessimistic: 7-9 Home: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington, Cleveland Away: Buffalo, New England, Houston, Indianapolis, Dallas, NY Giants, Oakland London: Miami Realistic optimistic: 10-6 Home: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington, Cleveland Away: Buffalo, New England, Houston, Indianapolis, Dallas, NY Giants, Oakland London: Miami Toss-Up Games: Buffalo (2), Miami (2), New England (2), NY Giants, Philadelphia Even if the Jets get Mariota/Winston, it all comes down to this guy: An NFL head coach once said, "The best place to be is where expectations are high." Over the past two years, the weight of such expectations has caused Smith to crash and burn. Now, the roster has been reloaded and, regardless of whether Mariota or Winston is drafted, Smith will pilot the Jets for a third season for, what will likely be, his last chance to be a starting QB in the NFL. The team's record, and its future, relies upon his play. Will Smith rise to the occasion? Spoiler Probably not. But, man, am I amped for this season.
8-8. Love what they have done on defense but this offense finished 28th in points scored and the only big addition was Marshall. At the end of last season not 1 person thought "if we just add Brandon Marshall this offense is ready for the playoffs!"
But if you add Brandon Marshall to the offense along with adding Revis, Cromartie, Skrine, Gilchrist, a properly-placed Pryor and a high end rookie pass rasher to the defense?
Last year at this time most of us thought the Jets would be at least a 7-9 for 2014. With a possibility of 9-7. I'd have to go with a 7-9 for 2015 with a plus (but not a minus) 2. So at best a 9-7 at worst a 7-9. Hard to really predict without knowing the Qb situation. But chances are it'll be Geno and Fitz whomever out plays the other Qb.
marshall helps but its a change in offensive scheme, QB play and how one benefits the other thats gonna make the biggest difference to this team. without knowing what that entails its hard to count on NYJ to make a run, despite a defense that should easily be top 10 if not top 5. my fantasy is Smith using his arm talent to sling it around unhinged in a gunslinger's passing game that yields more TD's as his big technicians at WR school their opponents… but thats wishful thinking. reality says we'll get average at best QB play. my gut tells me 8-8, my mind 7-9, my fanboy 10-6.
I think 7-9 to 9-7 sounds about right. The only way I see our record being any better is if one of several things happens: 1. Whatever players the Jets get in the first 4 rounds all contribute at a high level from day one. and 2. The Jets get Mariota, he proves to be ready to start day 1, and their other picks also help the team from day one. or 3. The Jets get Cooper or White in the 1st, Gurley in the 2nd, a starting quality OG in the 3rd and a blocking TE in the 4th. or 4. The Jets get Fowler in the 1st, Dorsett in the 2nd, a quality RB with speed in the 3rd, and an OG or blocking TE in the 4th.
somehow I highly doubt we go OG at any point in chicago. we signed carpenter, we have Dozier and Aboushi, we have some other guys there competing, wheres a rookie gonna fit in all that, much less as an immediate starter? Not everything is set in stone but I think we're gonna roll with what we got at guard, especially with there being some more talent in other spots. now a TACKLE, thats a higher possibility.
I still need to know who the QB and our first 2 picks are. I'm expecting 8-10 wins though. 8 with Geno , 10 with Fitz
Minimum 8-8, but probably not much higher. 9-7 if things bounce right, 10-6 if miracles happen. I just think this defense is going to keep us in a lot of games. _
nonsense..a qb that doesn't turn the ball over 25-30 times can contribute to more than 1 additional win.
i agree about Tackle. there is a tremendous need there. Breno should be at most a backup, and is likely in his last season here. D'brick can still play, but something will have to change with next year's salary in order for him to remain here. the backups Hilliard and Ijalana are uninspiring, and also on short term deals. Aboushi has already shown he is no T at the NFL level. would be very wise to address the future of this position in this draft. Guard is also not very inspiring at all. but a i agree, with a whole bunch of borderline and/or developmental players already on the roster, would we add another one in the mid rounds? i think if we draft Guard, it's very early, or not at all. Due to the state of the Oline, and of course the QB position, i'm not convinced this team can reach the playoffs. considering the defensive improvements though, i'd be very disappointed to finish anywhere under .500 beating the Pats once, and the Giants, while finishing .500 or better would be a success to me (even w/o playoffs)...especially if things start to look upward at QB and/or Oline..
QB or not, after this spending spree, the Jets better be better than 8-8. If not then this was a disaster.
That is why I said I loved what they did on defense and also why I doubled their win total from last year. I think that is totally reasonable.
Gotcha, when you said last year at this time no one was thinking "we are a Brandon Marshall away from the playoffs" I figured you were placing much more of an emphasis on how little (if you can even say that) we improved offensively.
Jets have a lot of talent. The problem continues to be that we have no QB. Fitzpatrick is one of the better QB's we've had in recent years (not saying much) If Fitz is our QB we would probably be capable of winning 9 games, maybe 10 if things broke right for us. We need to acquire another QB either through the draft or trade.
