lol i coulda swore we used a 2nd rd pick on a kicker last year.. who got hot towards the end of the year.
So Adrian Jones, a LT (one of the most important positions on the teams)who had tire skid marks on his back from DE's running over and around him and killing our QB's, deserves a chance to get better so that someday he can be an adequate player (while we start either a recovering Pennington or a rookie!!!), but let's give up on our rookie kicker who kicker well in the 2nd half of the year and only needs to gain leg strength. And to top if off, we are going to replace our 2nd year kicker with an idiot who leads the league in criticizing teammates, has kicked his whole career in a dome, and has never made a clutch kick in his career. Brilliant.
Yah Im guessing he wanted to see him kick a 65 yarder his first day on the field. That would have really proved his worth. 1,200 + post , and such babble im quite disgusted. Let the kid get use to the ball, by all means if he comes back next year and is still the same player then perhaps we look for a replacement but no, no way after his ROOKIE year. and btw there is no way I want vanderjagt kicking a field goal for me in the clutch. Did you see his kick against pittsburgh ? At least briens was kind of close. Vanderjagt shanked that kick badly. I hope the Pats get Vanderjagt
It's like one of those posts Rebel Mike's "roomate" would make. Just be patient, Nuge is a fine young kicker. Vanderjagt is a malcontent with no poise.
I always liked Vandy, but that kick in the POs this year was BAD. I was down on Nuge most of the year last year, but then TBird explained a lot of things to me that made sense. He was kicking a much different ball, he grew increasingly accurate as the year went on, and although he doesn't get the touchbacks, he has great hang time, letting our athletic STers downfield before the returner has a chance to get his wheels moving. I'm still not 100% convinced of Nuge yet, but I am not giving up on him yet. He has this year to show whether he can get the job done. If he has a bad year this year, then we can worry about finding a replacement. Guys, I wouldn't beat on him too much. I understand his point of view, since a few months ago I would have said the same thing. Instead of ripping him, explain why Nuggent still has potential. At least then it's a conversation, and he may become aware of something he didn't know, like I did. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of guys with soap-in-a-sock, pounding on him. Come on guys, the past few days have had a bunch of great conversations, let's keep it up!
While I would stick with Nugent, it wasn't all peaches and cream with him in the second half of the year. He has said in his own blog that he was dissatisfied with the length of his kickoffs in the second half of the year, and that he needs to get better (I don't believe that he said anything about going for hangtime, but that doesn't mean it's not true). I certainly hope that he is hitting the weights to build up his leg strength this offseason.
He already has the hangtime. If he can somehow improve the length while keeping the hangtime, we will be seeing some really fantastic field position next season. Hopefully he will work harder on accuracy from long distance though. I would rather he hit a 50 yarder when we need it than knock opponents back from the 15 to the 10.
VANDERJAGT?!? Sure, let's bring in a big-mouth kicker who demands top dollar to fold under pressure. Excellent idea. While we're at it, we might as well bring back Doug frickin' Brien, too. Let them compete for the job, while Nugent, a solid kicker, withers away on the bench.
i am pretty sure that he did. OSU fans had a half-joking website going for a while - Nugent 4 Heisman.
All I am saying is that a better guy is available and the kicker we have will never be as good as Vanderjagt...that is undeniable.
2 seconds? don't give people a free benefit of the doubt. you know dam well he thought this out from top to bottom, and amidst the criticism, still won't understand....why....
