What’s actually funny about this is we did this same exact thing to Zach Wilson, to the point that it got out that Zach had said he was refusing to start until he walked it back. But coaches and ownership basically took a dump on him, only to have to put him back out again. And here we are… again.
They need to do something. Either trade for another QB or start preparing Cook behind Tyrod. I don't want to see Fields back behind center for the Jets ever again. He had his shot here he had his shot on other teams enough is enough. I don't need to see more. I would cut Fields try to bring in some help at WR for our QBs.
I say they have to make a move because Tyrod is strictly a backup QB at this stage of his career and he's old. He can start a few games for the Jets but I don't expect him to finish the season as the starting QB. The Jets need a younger backup QB that is willing to and can throw a pass downfield on a regular basis.
Make a move? What QB is out sitting on his couch right now? You wanna trade for a QB on an 0-7 team? Buckle up, we suck and we’re gonna suck even worse this season. We’re about to make us yearn for the Brooks Bollinger days.
Plenty of QBs could be available. Heck the Giants have two Winston & Wilson. Shedeur. It's about putting out a respectable competitive product on the field. It's about this coach this regime giving the team & the fans a reason to believe in them. They didn't inherit the worst team in football. Aside from week 1 and week 2 against Tampa Bay's prevent the Jets offense has been non-competitive.
Woody should have a very stern conversation with the guy who got rid of our previous HOF quarterback who wanted to be here.
You’re right, they didn’t inherit the worst team in football, they created it. They could have pursued Winston or Wilson, they didn’t. They proudly pursued and grossly overpaid for Fields. Winston was signed for 2 years 4m per year with incentives up to 16m, 5.3m guaranteed. Wilson 10.5m guaranteed for 1 year. How the ever loving fuck do we come to the conclusion that Justin Fields is somehow worth 3-9 times as much as either Wilson or Winston. They could’ve drafted Shadeur. So your answer is to now let them waste future resources to do what common sense says they should’ve done aside from keeping Rodgers in the first place so they can have some respectability and evaluate if they can coach? Fuck that are you nuts? You wanna see if they can coach, have them coach themselves out of the mess they created.
Basically for this year he has 20 mil salary guaranteed. 15 was already paid at signing, and remaining 5 are being split per game. Effectively for this year it's going to be 20 mil regardless. You might save a couple of mil if you trade him, but not if you cut him. You won't save much either way - about 20 mil for this year is it no matter what. Next year, he has also a 20 mil annual salary but only 10 is guaranteed. Meaning if you cut him now, you lose 10 more mil. And even if they do not cut him now, they will get rid of him in the offseason for sure. There is no way you are paying him 10 more mil on top of guaranteed 10 mil. He proved he is not worth that much. So, whether you cut him now or not (if not now we will definitely cut him in the offseason regardless) it will be the same cost: we will have to eat 10 mil next year for him not to play either way.
I hated the signing then and I hate even more after being proven right Just like I hated the AG hire then and I hate it still Woody will ALWAYS make the wrong decision. ALWAYS. You can take that to the bank
The fact you thought likes of Sam, D Jones, and Baker were good lottery tickets at the time and Fields wasn't is pretty incredible. I definitely want to get your opinion when it comes to the next QB. However this was not the consensus view, you saw something with these 4 guys most didn't. Majority of people who didn't like Fields as a lottery ticket didn't like some of the other guys either for the same reason: they had multiple teams give up on them. Yet these guys hit and they were wrong. There were some very reputable folks who played and coached NFL QBs and watch All 22 regularly who thought Fields was that lottery ticket too. So my view was: it was worth a lottery ticket even though most of the time they miss. The plan was to try to see if Fields can cash in the ticket, and if not draft a QB next year. We are now in the later part of this plan. But I am not going to kill AG/Mooge for going this route. The lottery ticket busted, which is not unexpected. I just wish they listened to you and got Daniel Jones, but then who knows, maybe he would look like shit too with this regime. Now the key is to tank and hope Woody will get pissed off, fires this regime, and somehow stumbles into someone half decent, who will pick and develop a good QB. I understand the chances of that are not high, but what can we really do? To quote Woody: "You can't win with hope, but it helps." What a fucking dumbass...
