Yes, you obviously did. You didn't choose a very strong argument, but making things up is not helping your cause. Burnett's record on short rest in the postseason: 0-1, with an ERA of 27. I just read some moron on Bleacher Report write in defense of this: "Gaudin hasn’t even pitched in over a month."
They were probably referring to Burnett on short rest in the regular season. He had done it something like four times in his career. He had never done it once this season. 0-1 with a 27 ERA. I assume you agree with me now?
I've got to assume thats what they meant, I know they mentioned he had a great record on short rest. I guess I've got to agree at this point, but I think Burnett gives you a better chance to win than Gaudin at any point. Hindsight is 20/20.
Got to agree with everyone here Cap. I'd rather see Burnett/Andy/CC than Gaudin/Burnett/CC. That loss wasn't a case of Burnett losing because of short rest - it was a case of Burnett losing because he's Burnett. You play to win, and I'm glad the Yankees kept the pressure up. We were one Phil Coke appearance away from winning #27 in spite of AJ shitting the bed.
I disagree that it's "giving the game away." Is it lessening your chances to win? Probably... but not as much as some people think. AJ Burnett was pitching at home on full rest in his previous start. He's a much better pitcher at home, for whatever reason. Has been for his entire career. So I don't see it as conceding today to have a better chance tomorrow. I see it as playing to the strengths of your team. I don't feel much better (if it all) about the Yankees' chances to win a game with Burnett on the road on short rest than I do about Gaudin on a month's rest. I really don't. And Burnett at home (where he's better) on full rest is much better than Pettitte at home (where he's worse) on short rest. So would I, all other things being equal. But they're not all equal. Last night was against Lee, and had Burnett starting on the road. I wasn't implying that the loss was because he was on short rest.
Naturally, and I wouldn't be arguing this so strongly had I not said before the game that this was a bad idea.
The best part is, it's usually me ripping Girardi to shreds for his decision making. This time, I'm one of the few actually completely in his corner. As for Yisman's 0-1 with a 27 ERA on short rest in the postseason, that's a misleading statistic isn't it? Before last night, when had he previously pitched on short rest in the postseason? Hindsight is 20/20. Which is another good point. You could also add in Mark Teixeira's lack of ability to get on base to give ARod a chance to make some magic. ------------- Here's something else to chew on. For argument's sake, let's say Gaudin pitched last night. We can all safely assume that he'd have done no better than Burnett did last night, I'm sure. But what if Burnett pitches like he did last night tomorrow night? Then what?
Four things: 1. There would be a lesser chance of that happening, given his career home/road splits. But, okay, let's say it did happen, and he pitched just as poorly. 2. Burnett would be going against a lesser pitcher than Cliff Lee, so the Yanks would likely have an easier time scoring runs. 3. The Yanks could bring in Pettitte, if need be, on short rest. Coke isn't needed to (try to) get lefties out. 3. You're still in good shape with CC in Game 7.
This is all moot. We should be concerning ourselves with more important matters- like: the quality of alcohol we will be imbibing/spraying Wed 11:30 EST, finding the proper celebratory venues, the assignment of a designated friend to post bond after reigning terror to the lower east Bronx..
At the time Girardi made the decision to start Burnett, his record in the postseason on short rest was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA. His short rest record in the regular season was quite good actually. And the argument that Gaudin has only thrown 1 inning in a month is a very good one. As a former pitcher I can tell you that it's truly not easy to throw on irregular rest, and game 5 of the World Series isn't the time for a rusty #6 starter like Gaudin. Plus, have you seen his numbers against lefty batters? Rollins, Utley, Howard and Ibanez would've killed the guy. I think that at the end of the day AJ Burnett sucking had more to do with Burnett being the most inconsistent pitcher in baseball than Burnett being on short rest, but that's just my opinion. At least Jose Molina is done for this series. Enough of Game 5 second guessing, I'm ready to move on.
A website showcasing world series rings from the past... http://wsrings.stadiumpage.com/ Really great stuff...damn, the things id do to own the 1927 world serie ring lol. anyone know if they make replicas? which is the best and worst to you guys?

Wow...what a dicotomy from NFL Super Bowl rings....some of those rings look like they are from a highschool/university ring catalogue...LOL Absolutely, they make replicas....as soon as the series is over, they market everything WS, to get as much $$$ from the deal as possible. Also, the economy is terrible. With a bit of research, you could probably get an original SOMEWHERE!!!! Good luck!!!
If I heard correctly on the Fan just a short time ago, Girardi said how he would have started Gaudin if we were up 3-0, but wouldn't start him if we were up 3-1 (because he hadn't pitched in a long while). The logic, I just don't get it...
