Eh, I agree with you, but can you blame them? When it comes to this team, some usually wait for the other shoe to drop.
No, on one hand, I can't blame them at all, but still... For the most part this team has played smart, tough, disciplined football. Something they haven't done in at least 6 years, and maybe longer. They've won every game they've won by double digits. It doesn't matter that the other teams are bad and below .500. Those were the teams they were scheduled to play. In other years, the Jets would have found ways to lose those games, especially following the bye week under Rex. Before the season started, most posters were saying they'd be happy to be 2-2 after the first 4 games. The OL has exceeded expectations, Fitz has exceeded expectations, Ivory has exceeded expectations, Williams and the D have exceeded expectations (or at least met them, of which there was no guarantee), Bowles has exceeded expectations. No one knew what would happen with Marshall. There has to be something that people can focus on, appreciate, enjoy and/or take pleasure in. If not, then they're just making themselves miserable. At some point, you have to let the past go. This is a different team with different leadership.
I think you misunderstood that comment. It's meaningless because Fitz has played well in leading us to a 4-1 record. I think their hope is that he doesn't play well against NE and then they can start their REAL conversation again. You know, the backup. _
Anyone insulting Fitzpatrick right now is down right hilarious. He is a journeyman QB, coming off of a broken leg. He was thrust into the starting line-up in the beginning of August. His current stat line is 9 Touchdowns, 7 Interceptions. With a record of (4-1). More importantly, he has command of the offense and his teammates respect him. Can't ask for much more, especially as a Jets fan. I have been really pleased with FITZMAGIC.
This isn't his first rodeo against the Pats....... They won't intimidate him and there's Secondary isn't great........ I think he can have another good day
beating NE sunday will go a long way towards getting people to believe and appreciate what they are seeing. people just don't wanna build the Jets up (AGAIN) only to see them get torn down hard. and I can't blame them for that.. you can't either man. I'm enjoying this season because its NOT a rollercoaster ride for once
This will be interesting to watch for the Jets@Pats game. The Pats besides the Cowboys game have played with an undersized pass rushing unit all year. Fitz is doing so well at avoiding sacks and Chris Ivory is so good I wonder if they will use their big DTs for a change and focus on run stopping and lets Fitz throw.
You're right, I can't blame them. I've been there before and know the agony I put myself through. I clearly remember reaching a point where I couldn't trust the team, its owner, FO and CS. As it turns out, it was for good reason. While I initially embraced Rex, I never trusted Tanny, and I soon realized what a doofus and blowhard Rex was. If Woody hadn't made the changes he did this offseason, and if Mac and Bowles hadn't demonstrated to me that they are competent professionals, I might still be there with them or may have just turned my back on the team altogether (not reading, posting, following). I just hate it for them. Even though I've not got to see anything except highlights, I've enjoyed this season more than any other since 2009-2010, and I have greater confidence in the future now then I did then because of the differences I can see between Mac and Tanny and Bowles and Rex. The thing is that even if they lose to NE on Sunday, it doesn't negate any of the positives and won't end the season. Before the season started no one was giving us much of a chance to beat NE or wrest the Eastern Division crown away from them. As well as the team has been playing and as many reason as we have to be enjoying this season and optimistic about the future, this is still a team that has some fairly major flaws (QB, TE, RB depth, OT depth, WR depth, ILB, P and probably K as well). So, it won't be unexpected if we lose to NE. If we beat them, it's gravy. The team could still wind up with the wildcard and in the playoffs and a 10 or 11-win season.
I agree if they lose sunday its not a big deal. Just another game. Thats how they should approach it. 10 wins gets you into the playoffs and they should aim for 10 wins right now. it doesn't matter if those wins come against NE or JAX, 10-6 is 10-6. I don't expect them to win sunday and I'm not gonna cry if they don't.
After looking at the mic'ed up thread, its pretty clear Fitz practically got decked by his own running back as he was releasing the ball. Given that, I really have to retract this part of the statement. Not his fault, and in fact the underthrow was safer than putting it right on Marshall on that play. Still not overly impressed, but I will say he is moving the offense somewhat consistently, and getting some rebound drives when we need them, which is nice for a change. I have no confidence Geno would be doing either of those things, because he's never done them before.
