Jets rise in power rankings

Admin - September 12, 2012

We've been posting weekly power ranking updates for quite a few years but now it's time to expand, as we're going to double the number of websites this year from three to six. In addition to the big three (ESPN, CBS Sports and FOX Sports), we'll also have power rankings from ProFootballTalk (PFT), ProFootballWeekly (PFW) and the Sporting News.

So, following the destruction of the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, all websites were expectedly in agreement, rising the Gang Green's stock across the board. ProFootballWeekly was especially impressed, as the Jets went up 8 spots in their rankings. CBS Sports, on the other hand, moved the Gang Green just one spot up. Not a surprise really though, as Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has shown his dislike towards the Jets on quite a few occasions over the years.

Here's what all these websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN:  Most unexpected stat of the summer: The Jets scored the most points in a season opener since the 49ers in 2003.

FOX Sports: Wow. I don't put too much weight on the preseason, but no one could have anticipated that the Jets would put up more points in one game than they did all four preseason games combined. But the Bills have an awful defense. Let's see how the Jets do against the Steelers before we jump back on the bandwagon.

CBS Sports: Were they just playing coy in the preseason? They looked like a different team. It's obvious they need to unchain Mark Sanchez.

ProFootballTalk: The Jets may have been wise to bank a few of those 48 points for Sunday’s trip to Pittsburgh.

ProFootballWeekly: O-line held "vaunted" Bills D-line to zero sacks, one QB hit.

The Sporting News: Everyone knew Hill was big and athletic, and it turned out that when the lights came on for real, the rookie could hold on to the ball. It's safe to say Mark Sanchez trusts him as a starter.
