Some people wonder where the SOJ (Same ol’ Jets) mantra comes from. Well, unfortunately you don’t have to look much further than last week’s abysmal performance. This was their latest display of putrid football when they needed to play their best. We have seen the Jets bounce back from this mess before. We’ve also seen them completely fall apart. What the end of the 2011 season will look like is anyone’s guess. Here’s a look at some other recent Week 15 collapses.
QB Kellen Clemens will start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, as QB Mark Sanchez is unable to play due to his sprained right knee, head coach Rex Ryan announced today. Ryan added that he made the decision not to have Sanchez play after seeking the advice of team doctors.
The New York Jets have released QB Chad Pennington to clear up salary cap space for the recently acquired QB Brett Favre. Pennington, who was drafted in the first round in 2000, has spent his entire injury plagued career with the Jets. His best year was 2002 when he took over as the starting quarterback and posted an amazing QB rating of 104.2, leading the Gang Green to the playoffs.
It was Team Green against Team White on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Hempstead, NY, as the New York Jets took the field at Hofstra University's James M. Shuart Stadium. The teams played four 10-minute quarters and the Greens led by QB Chad Pennington won 10-7.
