Jets Add Carter As Backup

Admin - August 24, 2004

Update (08/26/04): Carter signed a 1-year deal with a $455,000 base salary, $75,000 signing bonus and $25,000 roster bonus.

The New York Jets have signed 4-year veteran QB Quincy Carter who was recently released by the Dallas Cowboys, supposedly after a failed drug test.

Carter, 26, has played in 31 NFL regular season games and started in all of them. In 3 seasons with the Cowboys he threw for 5,839 yards with a completion percentage of 56.2, 29 TDs, 36 INTs. His career quarterback rating is 70.0.

The addition of Carter is very important for the Jets, as their lack of depth at the quarterback position was clearly seen in the first two preseason games.
