MLB Jonathan Vilma won The Associated Press 2004 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, the NFL announced earlier today. Vilma received 21 votes, edging CD Dunta Robinson who received 12 to finish second.
Vilma recorded 107 tackles (77 solo) during regular season. He also added 2.0 sacks, 3 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 1 fumble recovery and 2 pass defenses.
He became the third player in the NY Jets history to win this prestigious award. Erik McMillan was the winner in 1988 and Hugh Douglas won the award in 1995.
