Training Camp

Jets open camp in Cortland

Admin - July 31, 2009

The New York Jets opened 2009 Training Camp this morning on the grounds of SUNY Cortland in Upstate New York. Despite the nasty rainy weather, hundreds of fans gathered to watch the first practice under the guidance of new head coach Rex Ryan.

Of course, most eyes were glued to the battle for the quarterback position between veteran QB Kellen Clemens and rookie first round selection QB Mark Sanchez. Neither of them really impressed in the first session, but if Sanchez was at least decent, Clemens looked simply horrendous. He was constantly overthrowing receivers and threw an interception to CB Darrelle Revis. So, if this was a boxing match, the first round definitely went to Sanchez.

RB Leon Washington was present at practice despite the ongoing contract negotiations. He didn't participate in any drills though, but we hear it's only because he took the conditioning test early this morning. RB Thomas Jones, who's also unhappy with his current contract that paid him $13M over the first two years, broke one run, which appeared to be the only highlight for the Jets' running attack this morning. NT Kris Jenkins and Co. totally shut the run down.

That's about it as far as highlights go, as most of the session consisted of different position drills. Hopefully, we'll see more 11-on-11s in the afternoon, if the weather accomodates of course.

Ok, done uploading pics (27 total). I do hope the weather will be better in 3.5 hours...
