Thomas Jones on his way out? Not so fast!

There's been a rumor floating today that the New York Jets are trying to trade RB Thomas Jones. The rumor was started by Michael Lombardi from the National Football Post who said that the Gang Green were shopping the disgruntled running back to an NFC West team.

However, according to the Star Ledger, a "person with knowledge of the club's plans" indicated that this rumor was not true. Jones, who still has 2 years remaining on his 4-year contract, in unhappy with his current contract and wants a new deal. It's quite doubtful though that the Gang Green will give up to his demands, considering that Jones is going to turn 31 next week.

Rookie RB Shonn Green has looked impressive lately in training camp, but is yet to play a down in the NFL. Would it be a good idea to trade Jones now and go with the rookie? I don't think so. Jones is the only proven every down back on this team and trading him now, especially considering that the Jets' passing attack is a big question mark, would not be a wise decision.
