Jets Player Release

Jets waive two, add depth to offensive line

Admin - August 15, 2009

The man who most likely cost the Jets a victory last night, WR Paul Raymond, was waived earlier today in a rather predictable move by the Jets. QB Chris Pizzotti, who was #4 on the depth chart and did not see any action last night, was let go as well. Additionally, the Gang Green signed OG Dennis Conley, an undrafted free agent who was waived last month by the Bears.

WR Paul Raymond was originally signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and spent the entire 2008 season on and off the Jets' practice squad. His only chance to make the team this year was on special team and he totally blew it last night, fumbling on his only punt return of the game.

QB Chris Pizzotti is another undrafted free agent. He was signed by the Jets, following the 2009 Draft. At the start of training camp, it sure looked like Pizzotti and Erik Ainge would be competing for #3 QB spot on the roster. But as camp progressed, Pizzotti was seeing less and less action on the field. Last night the Jets did not put him in for a single down, despite that Rex Ryan had said before the game that both Ainge and Pizzotti would be involved. Ainge went 10 of 17 for 148 yds, 1 TD and basically sealed Pizzotti's fate with his performance.

OG Dennis Conley, an undrafted rookie free agent from Hampton University, who was waived by the Chicago Bears on July 31st. Conley, 6'2", 305 lbs, played left guard at college and was rated 42 out of 149 guards in the Draft by NFL Draft Scout. The injury plagued Jets' offensive line could surely use some depth and Conley is most likely just the first of many players the Gang Green are going to try out.
