Jets sign tight end Ben Hartsock

Admin - September 2, 2009

The New York Jets filled an obvious void today, as they signed TE Ben Hartsock to back up TE Dustin Keller. Hartsock, 6'4", 264 lbs, is a 6-year veteran who has played for Indianapolis, Tennessee and Atlanta. He has started in 26 games in his career (56 games total) and caught 27 passes for 273 yards. Hartsock was released yesterday by the Falcons and the Jets were among at least 6 teams interested in his services. He signed a 1-year deal worth $1.275M and will be used primarily as a blocker. The Gang Green waived P Glenn Pakulak to fit Hartsock on their 75-man roster.

There are plenty of rumors floating around about the Jets being interested in acquiring WR Brandon Marshall from the Denver Broncos. Denver wants a 1st and 3rd round picks for the disgruntled wide receiver. The Jets definitely could use help at wide receiver, but the question is whether someone as immature as Brandon Marshall is a good fit in New York. Currently the Gang Green have WR Chansi Stuckey as their #2 wide out and WR Jerricho Cotchery as #1. If the Jets do get Marshall, Cotchery would most likely slide to #2, while Stuckey would become a slot receiver.
