Jets Regular Season

Rex Ryan: Jets are elite team

Admin - September 21, 2009

"I think so. Who do we have to beat?" was Rex Ryan's answer on ESPN 1050 when asked if the New York Jets were an elite team. The Jets are 2-0 after beating the New England Patriots on Sunday and suddenly on the radar of all media "experts", most of whom predicted the Gang Green to finish last in AFC East. Ryan did not stop there, however, as he added that the Jets won the Super Bowl in his dad's first year as a coach in New York, and so maybe the Gang Green just needed a Ryan on their coaching staff to return to Super Bowl glory.

CB Darrelle Revis, who shut down WR Andre Johnson and WR Randy Moss in consecutive weeks, is among Sunday's five most valuable players on Yahoo Sports. "He’s in my top three corners in the NFL", said former All Pro Deion Sanders, and added that "all who are listening and watching please take the Jets seriously."

QB Mark Sanchez, who's unbeaten thus far in his short NFL career, is another Jets player who's getting rave reviews around the league. "All I can say is 'wow.' How can Mark Sanchez look as cool as Tom Brady?" was a quote from another former All Pro, Michael Irvin. Sanchez went 14 of 22 for 163 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT against the Patriots and might as well be on his way to winning his second Rookie of the Week award in a row.

CB Donald Strickland and CB Lito Sheppard suffered injuries and did not return. Rex Ryan refused to speculate on their availability for the next game against the Titans, but added that they are "day to day."
