McElroy Undergoes Surgery, Out Several Weeks

Admin - September 2, 2011

According to various reports, QB Greg McEloy, who suffered a thumb injury in last night's preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, underwent surgery earlier today. He's expected to be out for at least several weeks. QB Drew Willy replaced him yesterday and performed pretty well. The Jets will reportedly release Willy and then try to put him on the practice squad.

Backup QB Mark Brunell did not play a single down in preseason but is expected to be ready for the season opener against Dallas. So, look for the Jets to bring in a veteran QB in the coming days. Former Jets QB Kellen Clemens who might be getting cut by the Washington Redskins is a possibility.
