Injuries

Jets lose Cumberland for season

Admin - September 26, 2011

TE Jeff Cumberland suffered a torn a torn Achilles' tendon in yesterday's loss to the Oakland Raiders. He will be placed on the injured reserve ending his season. This is a tough break for Cumberland who was poised to have a breakout year after impressing in preseason and catching 2 passes for 35 yards in the first two games.

Cumberland was signed by the Jets in 2010 as an undrafted free agent. He made his NFL debut against the Buffalo Bills on January 2, 2011, catching one pass for 3 yards.

The Jets now have only blocking specialist TE Matthew Mulligan behind TE Dustin Keller on the depth chart.

CB Antonio Cromartie, who had an abysmal game yesterday, suffered a rib injury and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Cromartie's timetable for recovery is about pain tolerance at this point. He was hurting, as expected, after the game and didn't talk to reporters in the locker room.
