NFL Draft

Jets select TE Jace Amaro in round two

Admin - May 9, 2014

After failing to trade up to grab a wide receiver in the second round, the Gang Green stayed put at #49 and drafted TE Jace Amaro from Texas Tech. Amaro is a big target, 6'5", 260 lbs, who had 106 receptions for 1,352 yards, 7 TD in 2013. He started in 10 of 13 games and was used primarily as an inside receiver.

According to NFL.com scouting report, Amaro has "excellent size with a well-proportioned frame and room for added bulk." He's a good route runner and moves like an oversized receiver. He also possesses good balance and good hands to extend and catch.

Amaro lacks top speed (ran 40 yards in 4.74) and struggles to consistently separate. His college production was inflated by the offensive scheme and poor pass defenses. He also struggled to catch the ball at the scouting combine.

His durability might also be a concern, as he missed 6 games in 2012 due to an upper body injury. Amaro was also arrested in 2012 for credit card fraud.
