Jets Preseason

Jets open preseason with win against Colts

Admin - August 7, 2014

If Jets fans wanted to see an impressive offensive showing from the Gang Green, they will have to wait at least another week. The revamped Jets' offense looked anything but impressive, but at least they did not make any big mistakes, which was something that haunted them throughout the entire last season. Nevertheless, it was still good to see Rex Ryan's team open preseason with a 13-10 win.

QB Geno Smith started the game and went 4 of 6 for 33 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. His most impressive play was a 10-yard run on the second Jets' drive of the game. Smith's first drive resulted in a punt, while his second led to a field goal.

QB Michael Vick played two possessions as well. He finished 3 of 6 for 18 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. Vick showed that he still has his legs, gaining 19 yards on 3 runs, including a 15-yard one. The Gang Green scored a touchdown on one of Vick's drives when another free agent acquisition, RB Chris Johnson, rumbled into the end zone from 1-yard line.

QB Matt Simms played the rest of the game, going 13 of 18 for 96 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT.

The ground game struggled, averaging just 2.7 yards per carry. RB Chris Ivory carried 7 times for 17 yards before leaving the game with a rib injury. RB Chris Johnson, who scored the only Jets' touchdown, gained only 1 yard on 3 carries.

The first team defense nearly gave up a touchdown on the opening drive. The Colts botched a 3rd down snap in the red zone and had to settle for a field goal. Later in the first half CB Dimitri Patterson gave up a 45-yard completion on the drive that resulted in a Colts' touchdown. CB Dee Milliner, on the other hand, had a pretty solid game. He defended two passes and nearly had an interception in the end zone. LB David Harris was another player who seemed to be already in mid season form. Harris led the team with 6 tackles (4 solo) and 1 sack. Rookie DE IK Enemkpali also had a sack, forcing a fumble that sealed the game for the Gang Green.

One last season's bad trend that continued tonight was penalties. The Gang Green got flagged 9 times for 59 yards.
