Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks with broken jaw

Admin - August 11, 2015

The Jets circus, that we thought had left for Buffalo, is back in town. Starting QB Geno Smith had his jaw fractured in two places earlier today after being sucker punched by LB IK Enemkpali. Smith is expected to be out 6-10 weeks, which means that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starter in Week 1.

At an impromptu press conference before today's practice session head coach Todd Bowles said that "there was an altercation in the locker room, had nothing to do with football. Something very childish. He got cold cocked, sucker punched whatever you want to call it, in the jaw." Bowles might have more on the matter later today.

IK Enemkpali, an outside linebacker, was a 6th round draft pick in 2014 that was battling to make the team. He played in 6 games last season, recording 3 tackles and 2 pass defenses. Enemkpali was arrested in 2011 and charged with battery on a police officer while he was at Louisiana Tech.
