Jets ship Leonard Williams to Giants

Admin - October 28, 2019

The New York Jets have traded DE Leonard Williams, a former first round draft pick, to their crosstown rivals, the New York Giants. The Gang Green drafted Williams at #6 overall in 2015 and he's been a major disappointment. Williams' best year was in 2016 when he registered 7.0 sacks and made the Pro Bowl team. He followed with just 2.0 sacks in 2017 and 5.0 in 2018. This season he hasn't had a single sack in the first 7 games. The Jets will receive a 3rd round pick in 2020 and a 5th round pick in 2021.

Williams, 25, was once projected to dominate in the trenches alongside DE Muhammad Wilkerson. While Wilkerson, another first round pick, had two 10+ sack seasons before his production greatly diminished once he secured a huge contract, Williams just never lived up to the hype.

The Jets and the Giants will play each other in two weeks. It's going to be interesting to see what Williams can do against his former team. This is the first time when the two New York area teams made a trade with each other.
