Jets select Mekhi Becton in Round 1

Admin - April 23, 2020

Rather predictably the Jets addressed their most pressing need in Round 1, as they selected OT Mekhi Becton from Louisville at #11 overall. The Gang Green had a choice between Becton and OT Tristan Wirfs and decided to go for the riskier pick with more upside. Becton is expected to start on the left side of the Gang Green's offensive line that allowed 52 sacks last season (4th worst in the league).

Becton, 6'7", 364 lbs, is an impressive athlete. He ran a 5.1 40-yard dash at the scouting combine and bench pressed 23 times. He started in 12 games (10 at left tackle, 2 at right tackle) for Louisville as a sophomore. In his final year in college Becton started in 11 games at left tackle and was selected to the first All-ACC team.

Strengths:

  • very athletic
  • long arms

  • punch placement consistency
