Jets go defense in 3rd round

Jets GM Joe Douglas went defense with the first two of the three third round draft picks. The Jets spent their first pick in the 3rd round (#68 overall they obtained from the Giants for Leonard Williams) on S Ashtyn Davis from California. Then, the Gang Green picked DE Jabari Zuniga from Florida at #79 overall. The Jets still have one more selection tonight - #101 they acquired from Seattle.

Ashtyn Davis, 6'1", 202 lbs, missed the scouting combine due to an injury. He's a great athlete with a top notch speed. According to DraftScout.com, he's capable of running a 4.28 40-yard dash. He had 4 interceptions as a junior and 2 as a senior.

Strengths:

  • Great character
  • Great athlete
  • Speed
  • Traits of a ballhawk

Weaknesses:

  • Can be reckless
  • Lacks experience
  • Struggles to get off blocks
  • Might need to add weight

Jabari Zuniga, 6'3", 264 lbs, played just 5 games in his senior year due to an ankle sprain. He had 11 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 2018.  He finished his NCAA career with 33 tackles for loss and 18.5 sacks in 39 games.

Strengths:

  • Rangy and fast
  • Great potential as an interior rusher
  • Great strength

Weaknesses:

  • Can be slow out of his stance
  • Lack of awareness
  • Inconsistent pass-rush
