Jets trade up, get a pass rusher

Admin - April 28, 2022

It's been forever since the Gang Green had an elite pass-rusher, since they traded John Abraham to Atlanta to be precise. Tonight the Jets traded up to #26 overall to select Florida State's DE Jermaine Johnson II, an elite edge rusher who registered 11.5 sacks in his final collegiate season. The Gang Green gave up their #35, #69 and #163 draft picks for Tennessee's #26 and #101.

Johnson, 6'5", 254 lbs, has an ideal size to be an outside rusher. He's also pretty fast (4.58 40-yard dash) with a good motor that hardly ever stops. Johnson was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year last season, as he led the conference in tackles for loss (17.5), sacks (11.5) and forced fumbles (2). Many people had Johnson go in the top 10, so the Jets might have gotten quite a steal at #26 overall.
