Nugent – AFC player of the month

Admin - January 4, 2007

New York Jets' PK Mike Nugent has won the AFC Special Team Player of the Month Award for the month of December. He has become the second Jets' player this season to win this award. CB/KR Justin Miller was the winner in October.

Nugent was a perfect 12 for 12 in December field goal attempts, helping the Jets earn a 4-1 record in the month en route to the AFC’s #5 playoff seed with a 10-6 record. Nugent accounted for 47 of the team’s 113 points in the month, including a 30-yard game-winner in Week 16 at Miami with 10 seconds remaining to claim a 13-10 win. That kick allowed the Jets to control their playoff destiny in Week 17, which they did successfully by beating the Raiders 23-3, helped by Nugent’s three-for-three field goal performance.

Another Jet, C Nick Mangold, was among the nominees for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month award.
