Jets move up in power rankings

Admin - September 12, 2013

Before the start of regular season ESPN placed the Jets at the rock bottom of their power rankings - the Gang Green's lowest position since we began tracking power rankings on TheGangGreen.com. The win against the Bucs in the season opener prompted ESPN "experts" to move the Jets 5 spots up to #27. CBS Sports reacted similarly, as they moved the Gang Green from #30 to #26. CNN SI seemed to have been impressed even more, slotting the Jets at #23 (up from #30). Pro Football Talk has the Jets at #28. FOX Sports kept Rex Ryan's team at #30, unchanged from the week before.

Here's what all these websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: Geno Smith was off target on four of 38 pass attempts (11 percent) in his debut. Mark Sanchez missed on 22 percent of his throws last year, fourth highest among qualified QBs.

FOX Sports: I know the Jets actually beat the Bucs on Sunday, but I just can't convince myself that the Jets are the better team. They stay in the bottom three for now.

CBS Sports: It's Geno Smith's job now, and it should be. He did some good things in his first game. The defense had a good day too.

ProFootballTalk: Someone should register the trademark for “We won’t be 0-16!”

CNN SI: Geno Smith led the Jets to a Week 1 win over Tampa Bay, complete with a game-winning drive in the closing seconds. Rex Ryan then announced Monday that Smith would start in Week 2. No kidding.
