Jets turbulent flight gets reflected in power rankings

Admin - October 15, 2013

It's been a bumpy ride for the Jets this season, as every win has been followed by a loss so far. After the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, ESPN dropped the Gang Green two spots from #18 to #20. FOX Sports placed Rex Ryan's team at #19, down from #18 a week ago. CBS Sports, who had the Jets at #15 last week, also lowered their ranking to #18. ProFootballTalk placed the Gang Green four spots down comparing to last week - from #16 to #20. Finally, CNN SI, who had the Jets at #14, the highest position among all power rankings, put them at #15 this week.

Here's what all these websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: One step forward, one step back for Geno Smith. A week after a three-touchdown performance and game-winning drive in Atlanta, Smith threw two interceptions and managed six points against the Steelers.

FOX Sports: I have said all along that the Jets would be lucky to make it to their bye week with a 3-6 record. There next three games are all against division leaders -- the Patriots, Bengals and Saints. I'm sticking to my prediction.

CBS Sports: When Geno Smith makes mistakes, they aren't good enough to win. It's that simple.

ProFootballTalk: With the Patriots returning to New Jersey, it’s Buttfumble Week at MetLife Stadium.

CNN SI: Who took Sunday's Patriots rally past New Orleans harder: Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan? Or his brother, Jets head coach Rex Ryan, whose team fell two games back in the AFC East on Tom Brady's latest heroics?

If we follow the Jets' pattern of wins and losses this season, the Gang Green should win this week against the New England Patriots. ESPN experts, except for former Jet WR Keyshawn Johnson, however, all predict a New England win. Bookmakers favor Bill Belichick's team as well, as the current NFL odds show them as 4-point favorites.
