Power Rankings: Jets keep moving up

Admin - October 10, 2017

We're past Week 5 of the 2017 regular season and the Jets are unexpectedly finding themselves where hardly anyone projected them to be. The Gang Green now have more wins than losses and are in a 3-way tie for the first place in the AFC East. Having won three of the first five games, Todd Bowles' team now has more wins than most of us, myself included, predicted for the entire season.

Here's what the power rankings websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: The Jets have three wins! The unexpected start has nearly doubled the Jets' chances of making the playoffs. But don't get too excited. FPI gives still gives them the sixth-lowest chances in the NFL, but that's still up from 0.6 percent at the start of the season.

Sporting News: That is not a misprint. With the defense playing hard and Josh McCown showing calm, the Jets are a winning team so far in 2017. Wherever they finish, they've proved the fight is still there.

CBS Sports: At 3-2, they are tied for first in the AFC East. Did I just write that?

ProFootballTalk: If the plan was to create the impression of tanking in order to get people to claim that they were tanking in order to motivate the team to not tank, congratulations.

Yahoo Sports: Perhaps the most shocking thing thus far this season is that through five weeks, the Jets are tied for first in the AFC East. I figured it would be near impossible to win just one game this year. Now they have won three in-a-row and are in a battle for first in the AFC East this weekend.
