Power rankings: Jets move down after losing to Pats

Admin - October 18, 2017

The Gang Green lost but more than held their own against the Patriots, a consensus top 5 team. The Jets could have and should have won but own crucial mistakes and outrageous calls by the officiating crew were just too much to overcome. Todd Bowles' team has already achieved more than most of us predicted before the season began. Yet the "experts" at ESPN inexplicably have them at #27 in their latest power rankings, right next to the Bears and the Colts, both with losing records.

Despite their loss to the Patriots, the odds on the Jets remained about the same at BetStars. The Gang Green are currently +20000 to win the AFC and +40000 to win the Super Bowl. It sure is a very long shot but no one predicted the Jets to be .500 after the first six games either.

Here's what the power rankings websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: If the Jets are for real, they'll need to rip off some wins before their Week 11 bye, because W's will be hard to come by on the other side. Their final six games of the season are against the Panthers, Chiefs, Broncos, Saints, Chargers and Patriots.

Sporting News: Josh McCown has been a pro's pro and has given them a chance every week. Their defense has a nice mix of veteran leaders and youngsters beyond their years such as Jamal Adams. Even back at .500, there's plenty of feel-good for Todd Bowles' team.

CBS Sports: They competed against the Patriots and now must play another big division game at Miami. They've already overachieved.

ProFootballTalk: For the first time in recent history, the league office made a decision that helps the Patriots and hurts the Jets.

Yahoo Sports: I’m still not sure how that Austin Seferian-Jenkins play wasn't a touchdown. There’s no room for moral victories in the NFL, but I’m more impressed with the Jets after they gave the Patriots all they could handle.
