It's difficult to fall further down when you're already pretty much at the bottom. Despite their ugly loss to the Patriots, the Jets mostly remained where they were a week ago in the latest editions of power rankings. ESPN, the Sporting News, PFT and Yahoo Sports lowered the Gang Green's position in the rankings by only one spot. CBS Sports and NFL.com kept the Jets' stock unchanged. As a result, the Jets moved from a consensus #30 down to #31. Only last season's worst team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, is now ranked below the Jets. This weekend the Jets will be facing the Broncos, while Jacksonville will go against the Cardinals.
Here's what different power rankings websites had to say about the Jets:
ESPN: Berrios is not one of the Jets' top three receivers, but he has garnered unexpected playing time due to Jamison Crowder's absence. Working as the slot receiver, Berrios leads the team in targets (18), catches (12) and receiving yards (124). The coaches really like him because he is a precise route runner. Clearly, QB Zach Wilson trusts him. Now, with Crowder poised to return, it'll be interesting to see how they divide the playing time.
Sporting News: The Jets also are realizing that Zach Wilson is on an island at first with the offensive line breakdown, running game uncertainty and still limited receivers. He is smart and talented enough to learn well from the mistakes and the decision to start him right away was still the right one.
CBS Sports: Zack Wilson looked awful in losing to the Patriots, but Bill Belichick has done that to a lot of quarterbacks. They have to measure his season by growth, not victories.
ProFootballTalk: Zach Wilson will be fine. He’d be even better if he never had to face Bill Belichick again.
Yahoo Sports: What a disaster it was for Zach Wilson and the Jets vs. the Patriots. The No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft threw four interceptions in a brutal 25-6 loss. He'll look to bounce back when the Jets head to Denver next week.
NFL.com: There will be better days for Zach Wilson ... because they can't get much worse. Wilson threw four interceptions in a 25-6 loss to the Patriots, becoming the latest Next Great Hope in green to be swallowed whole by Bill Belichick. Wilson was brutal from the start, throwing picks on his first two pass attempts while repeatedly making poor decisions in his downfield reads. It's a shame, too, because the Jets played an otherwise-solid game: New York ran the ball well, improved its pass protection from Week 1 in Carolina, and held Mac Jones and the Pats' attack mostly in place. Wilson's epic struggles were simply too much to overcome, and Robert Saleh can only hope his young QB learns from a very tough home debut.
